Man arrested after sharing breakfast with woman in Saudi Arabia

Saudi authorities branded the footage “offensive” ( Twitter )
I would like to receive lunchtime headlines Monday - Friday plus breaking news alerts by email

A man has been arrested in Saudi Arabia after a video of him sharing a breakfast with a woman went viral.
The man, believed to be an Egyptian hotel worker, filmed himself eating a meal with a female colleague in the hotel where they both worked.

In the viral footage, which Saudi authorities branded “offensive”, the woman can be seen waving at the camera and feeding the man.
The Saudi labour ministry said the man was arrested and that the owner of the hotel has been summoned for questioning over the video.

The incident shows the challenge facing Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as he seeks to modernise the country.
In recent months women have been given the right to drive, the country has opened its first cinema and some mixed-gender concerts have been allowed to take place.
